Breakout Sessions for Professional Growth

Engaging Employees Through Professional DevelopmentWendi Shufflebarger, Human Resources Generalist - GE Appliances, a Haier Company

As a company, you want your employees to be invested in your business goals. You want them to get excited about your successes, and feel motivated to improve your products, contribute to your workplace culture, and be an active part of the company community. Your employees will not be as apt to be invested in you, though, if you don’t make it a point to invest in them. We will look into a variety of ways you and your organization can contribute to the development of your workforce as a way to increase engagement and production. We will also explore what you do with invaluable employees who are interested in developing their career when you are part of an organization that doesn't have a lot of promotional opportunities due to the economy or your organization's structure.

Strengthening Your Powerbase
Dave Baker, Founder/Principal - Palmetto Leadership Center

Relationships are one of the most important currencies that leaders and managers have. Your 'powerbase' allows you to make things happen, learn about opportunities before they are posted publicly, and gain access to resources and information that others don’t have. Some leaders and managers build their base of professional relationships proactively. Others do this intuitively without thinking about it, and still, others have a blind spot when it comes to nurturing and strengthening their professional relationships. We'll assess your current network and then systematically develop a plan to improve the key relationships in their network.
